Bathsheba Doran’s drama at Lincoln Center Theater also stars Gayle Rankin and Mamoudou Athie.
The Mystery of Love and Sex, a new play by Bathsheba Doran, celebrated its opening night at Lincoln Center Theater's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater on Monday, March 2.
Tony Shalhoub, Diane Lane, Gayle Rankin, and Mamoudou Athie star in the drama, which tells the story of Charlotte and Jonny, a pair of longtime friends and college students whose relationship turns romantic, despite the objections of Charlotte's parents. Rankin plays Charlotte, with Athie as Jonny, and Lane and Shalhoub as her parents. Bernie Passeltiner completes the company.
The production is directed by Sam Gold, who last collaborated with Doran on her play Kin. Doran is also the author of Parents' Evening and Ben and the Magic Paintbrush, among others.
The Mystery of Love and Sex features sets by Andrew Lieberman, costumes by Kaye Voyce, lighting by Jane Cox, and original music and sound by Daniel Kluger.
