A preliminary lineup of artists who will take part in Songs For Freedom, a benefit concert to be held at Joe’s Pub on October 30 at 7pm, has been announced. Tony Kushner will host the event that will be directed by Jo Bonney and raise funds for The Freedom Theatre.

Scheduled to take part in the event are Audra McDonald, Suzan-Lori Parks, David Byrne, Aimee Mann, and Angelique Kidjo, along with the Palestinian hip-hop group DAM. In addition, there will be a performance by the acting company of The Freedom Theatre.

The Freedom Theatre was founded in 2006 in the Jenin Refugee Camp in the Palestinian-occupied territories. Its mission is to create a safe space where young artists living under occupation could learn, create, perform and dream.
