Tony nominee Randy Skinner will direct the new musical about Norman Rockwell.
Joshua Sherman Productions and the Mill have announced that Perfect Picture, a new musical about the life of American painter Norman Rockwell, will play the inaugural 4 Freedoms Festival at Manchester, Vermont's Arkell Pavillion at the Southern Vermont Arts Center. Four-time Tony nominee Randy Skinner (Dames at Sea) will direct the production, which is set to play three performances, July 20 & 21.
Perfect Picture features book and lyrics by Eileen Bluestone Sherman and music by Gail C. Bluestone. The cast features Tony and Emmy winner Lillias White (Dreamgirls), Scarlett Strallen (Travesties), Sara Esty (The Beast in the Jungle), Danny Gardner (Dames at Sea), Jeremy Benton (42nd Street). Musical direction is by Timothy Graphenreed. Additional cast and production team information will be announced at a later date.
Perfect Picture is described as follows: "In 1942, illustrators enjoyed celebrity status — and Norman Rockwell was a superstar. He was too old to enlist, but still wanted to do his part, so he volunteered his services to the War Department to paint a series of posters inspired by F.D.R.'s "Four Freedoms" speech. Despite his fame, Rockwell was flat-out rejected. Perfect Picture explores Rockwell's life, loves, insecurities, and resilience."
