Waterwell cofounder and artistic director Tom Ridgely has announced that he will depart the company to become executive director of Shakespeare Festival St. Louis.

Ridgely, who cofounded Waterwell 15 years ago with actor-director Arian Moayed, will join that organization's board of directors upon his departure. Moayed, who currently serves as the organization's producer, will take on the role of interim artistic director while the board conducts a national search for a successor.

Waterwell's recent productions include Blueprint Specials onboard the former USS Intrepid and a dual-language English and Farsi Hamlet at the Sheen Center.

Ridgely will inherit Shakespeare Festival St. Louis's 2018 season, including its main stage production of Romeo and Juliet, its Shakespeare in the Streets production of the King Lear adaptation Blow, Winds, and a new festival of Shakespeare-inspired plays called In the Works.
