The world premiere production of the revue Make Me A Song: The Music of William Finn will be presented by TheaterWorks in Hartford, Connecticut, from August 11 through September 24.
Conceived and directed by Rob Ruggiero, the revue features songs by Finn, the Tony Award-winning composer/lyricist of Falsettos, Elegies: A Song Cycle, and the current Broadway hit The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee. The cast consists of New York theater veterans Sandy Binion, Joe Cassidy, Adam Heller, and Sally Wilfert; the creative team includes Michael Morris (musical direction), Luke Cantarella (set design), Alejo Vietti (costume design), and John Lasiter (lighting design).
Ruggiero has directed both Falsettos and Elegies for the Barrington Stage Company in the Berkshires. He asked Finn for permission to construct a revue of his songs; Finn agreed and offered access to nearly all his material, which also includes his scores for such shows as Romance in Hard Times and A New Brain.
