Hill is best known for his Emmy-nominated performance as Charlie Young on the long-running drama series The West Wing. He is also the star of the similarly long-running USA Network series Psych. At New York City Center, where After Midnight (then titled Cotton Club Parade) originated, his role was played by Brandon Victor Dixon (currently appearing on Broadway in Motown) and Joshua Henry (most recently seen in the Encores! Off-Center revival of Violet).
Directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle, After Midnight will begin performances at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre October 18 in advance of a November 3 opening. The musical features Ellington’s original arrangements performed by the 17-piece Jazz at Lincoln Center All-Stars band under the artistic direction of Grammy Award-winning trumpeter Wynton Marsalis.
