The original cast of the off-Broadway hit will reunite, and songs cut from the original production will be performed.
After its off-Broadway run at the Lucille Lortel Theatre earlier this year, The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical will be returning for a one-night-only event on August 28 at The Green Room 42 in celebration of the recent release of its cast album. The cast will be reuniting, and the special event will feature never-before-heard songs cut from the original production.
The cast includes Chris McCarrell (Les Misérables) as Percy Jackson, Carrie Compere (The Color Purple) as Sally, Sarah Beth Pfeifer (Legally Blonde: The Musical) as Clarisse, Jonathan Raviv (The Band's Visit) as Brunner, James Hayden Rodriguez (Spring Awakening) as Luke, George Salazar (Godspell) as Grover, and Kristin Stokes (Fly by Night) as Annabeth.
Based on the best-selling Disney-Hyperion novel The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan, the musical is written by Joe Tracz (Netflix's Series of Unfortunate Events) and Rob Rokicki (Strange Tails). Stephen Brackett (Buyer & Cellar) will direct the concert, with Wiley DeWeese (The Wildness) as musical director.
The Lightning Thief is described as follows in a press release: "Percy Jackson has newly discovered powers he can't control, has monsters on his trail, and is on a quest to find Zeus's lightning bolt and prevent a war between the Greek gods. Normal is a myth when you're a demigod."
