The Cradle Will Rock, Starring Tony Yazbeck, Offers Rush Policy for Union Members

Classic Stage Company has announced a rush ticket policy for its upcoming production of The Cradle Will Rock, running March 21-May 19. In the spirit of Marc Blitzstein's pro-labor play, the policy will offer $25 tickets to members of any union. In order to redeem these tickets, patrons must show their union ID at the box office the day of the performance they would like to attend, pending availability. This will be in addition to CSC's regular and student rush policies.
Directed by John Doyle, The Cradle Will Rock is a Depression-era indictment of rampant capitalism told almost entirely in song. The play's 1937 premiere, directed by Orson Welles, was famously shut down on the eve of opening night by federal authorities over so-called budget cuts, commonly considered a thin veil for fears of the play's pro-labor stance.
The story takes place in Steeltown, USA, where laborer Larry Foreman struggles to unionize fellow steel workers against mounting attacks from a greedy industrialist, a certain Mr. Mister. As a cross-section of society shows up in a night court, the extent to which Mr. Mister has bought the support and control of nearly all people — the editor of the local newspaper, the preacher, the doctor, artists — and institutions becomes brazenly apparent.
The CSC cast features Ken Barnett (Mozart in the Jungle) as Editor Daily, Eddie Cooper (The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui) as Junior Mister, Benjamin Eakeley (She Loves Me) as Reverend Salvation, Tony nominee David Garrison (The Visit) as Mr. Mister, Ian Lowe (Murder for Two) as Yasha, Kara Mikula (Allegro) as Sister Mister, Olivier Award winner Lara Pulver (Gypsy in London) as Moll, Sally Ann Triplett (Sweeney Todd at Barrow Street) as Mrs. Mister, Rema Webb (The Color Purple) as Ella, and Tony nominee Tony Yazbeck (On the Town) as Larry Foreman.
The creative team includes scenic designer John Doyle, costume designer Ann Hould-Ward, lighting designers Jane Cox and Tess James, and music supervisor Greg Jarrett.
