The Arlington theater will also mount an intimate production of Ragtime in the fall.
Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, has announced the lineup of productions set for its 2023-24 season.
The season will open with the romantic musical The Bridges of Madison County (August 8-September 17), helmed by the company’s associate artistic director Ethan Heard with music direction by Laura Bergquist and choreography by Kelly Crandall d’Amboise. Based on the best-selling novel by Robert James Waller, the musical features a Tony-winning score by Jason Robert Brown and a book by Pulitzer Prize winner Marsha Norman.
Later in the fall, artistic director Matthew Gardiner will re-imagine the expansive musical Ragtime (October 24-January 7, 2024) for Signature’s intimate MAX Theatre. Based on the novel Ragtime by E. L. Doctorow, the musical has a Tony-winning score by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty and a Tony-winning book by Terrence McNally. The Signature production will feature music direction by Jon Kalbfleisch and choreography by Ashleigh King.
Additional productions scheduled for Signature’s 2023-24 season include Lauren Yee’s King of the Yees; Marshall Pailet’s Private Jones; Eva Steinmetz, Alex Bechtel, and Grace McLean’s Penelope; the iconic rock musical Hair; and Jeff Augustin and the Bengsons’ Where the Mountain Meets the Sea.
