Suzanne Somers’ solo show The Blonde in the Thunderbird will close on Saturday, July 23 unless ticket sales rebound later this week. The show opened on July 17 to unanimously poor reviews.
Somers, who is best known as the star of the hit 1970s sitcom Three’s Company and a product pitchwoman on the Home Shopping Network, details the ups-and-downs of her life — including her father’s battle with alcoholism and her self-esteem issues — in this 95-minute show that marks her Broadway debut.
In his review for TheaterMania, David Finkle wrote: “Think of the enterprise as a People cover story with music or as an expanded version of those Oprah Winfrey/Dr. Phil segments in which one-time personalities attempt to remain in a dimming spotlight by spilling the facts of a troubled childhood.”
