Sutton Foster to Star in the New Group's Revival of Sweet Charity

The company’s 2016-17 season will also feature three premiere productions.

The New Group has announced four productions for its 2016-17 season, which begins this fall with the musical Sweet Charity, featuring two-time Tony Award winner Sutton Foster in the title role. All shows in the New Group season will take place at Pershing Square Signature Center.

Sweet Charity will be directed by Leigh Silverman, with choreography by Joshua Bergasse. With a book by Neil Simon, music by Cy Coleman, and lyrics by Dorothy Fields, the show is timed to the 50th anniversary of the classic musical. Previews will begin in November. Additional casting is to be announced.

The New Group season will continue in January 2017 with the U.S. premiere of Wallace Shawn’s Evening at the Talk House, directed by Scott Elliott. Casting is to be announced for this show, which follows a playwright who joins his old gang to reminisce on the 10th anniversary of the opening of a flop play.

The world premiere of All the Fine Boys, a new play from Erica Schmidt, will be presented in spring 2017. Schmidt will also direct this new play will tells the stories of 14-year-old best friends Jenny and Emily. Casting will be announced at a later date.

Finally, the New Group will presents the world premiere of Hamish Linklater's The Whirligig, directed by Scott Elliott. Zosia Mamet and Golden Globe winner Maura Tierney are set to star in this tale of a fractured community.
