Sting Sails His Last Ship at the Neil Simon Theatre
The Last Ship, Broadway's original musical featuring a score by 16-time Grammy Award winner Sting, will close on January 24. The production, which opened at the Neil Simon Theatre October 26, will have played a total of 29 previews and 104 performances.
Michael Esper leads the musical's principal cast as Gideon Fletcher, a young man from the English seafaring town of Wallsend, who leaves his life behind to travel the world — only to return a decade later to find out that what he deserted is more than he ever could have imagined. The company also includes Rachel Tucker, Fred Applegate, Aaron Lazar, Sally Ann Triplett, and Collin Kelly-Sordelet.
Sting himself joined the cast as well beginning December 9, taking on the role of shipyard foreman Jackie White, originally played by Jimmy Nail. Sting will continue in the role through the end of the show's run.
Directed by Joe Mantello, the show also features choreography by Steven Hoggett and a book by John Logan and Brian Yorkey.
