Spider-Man Broadway Musical Announces Creative Team

| New York City |

August 2, 2010

The creative team has been announced for the new Broadway musical, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, which plans to begin previews at the Hilton Theatre in the fall. Julie Taymor will direct the show, which features music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge of the band U2, and a book by Taymor and Glen Berger.

The musical is based on the Marvel Comics character, and follows the story of teenager Peter Parker, whose unremarkable life is turned upside-down — literally — when he’s bitten by a genetically altered spider.

The creative team will include Daniel Ezralow (choreography), George Tsypin (scenic design), Eiko Ishioka (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Jonathan Deans (sound design), and Teese Gohl (Musical Supervision).

As previously reported, rock singer Reeve Carney will play Peter Parker/Spider Man. No other casting has been officially announced, although published reports have stated that Jennifer Damiano will play Mary Jane and Patrick Page will be the Green Goblin. Previously announced cast members Evan Rachel Wood and Alan Cumming officially withdrew from the project earlier this year.
