Disney's Freaky Friday begins performances tonight at Signature Theatre.

The new musical, based on Mary Rodgers novel and the Disney film, explores what happens when an overworked mother and her teenage daughter magically swap bodies. They have just one day to put things right again before mom’s big wedding. It's a contemporary update of an American classic in which a mother and daughter really see what it is to be a family and experience each other’s lives firsthand, if only for a day. Bridget Carpenter wrote the book, Tom Kitt composed the music, and Brian Yorkey penned the lyrics. Christopher Ashley directs.

Heidi Blickenstaff (Something Rotten!) stars as Katherine Blake. She is joined by Emma Hunton (Spring Awakening) as Ellie Blake, Jason Gotay (Bring It On The Musical) as Adam, and Alan H. Green (School of Rock) as Mike. The ensemble is completed by Shayna Blass (The Mystery of Love & Sex), Tyler Bowman (Lost in the Stars), Cicily Daniels (The Little Mermaid), Jamie Eacker (The Fix), Sherri L. Edelen (La Cage aux Folles), Katie Ladner (Heathers: The Musical), Storm Lever (Wringer), J.Elaine Marcos (Annie), Thaddeus McCants (The Flick), Calvin McCullough (Skin & Bones), Jake Heston Miller (Oliver!), Tanisha Moore (Flashdance The Musical), Julian Ramos (West Side Story), Olivia Ashley Reed (West Side Story), Bobby Smith (La Cage aux Folles), Robert Walters (Bye Bye Birdie), and Jason "SweetTooth" Williams (Things to Ruin).

The creative team includes Sergio Trujillo (choreography), Bryan Perri (music supervision), Michael Starobin (co-orchestrations), Carmel Dean (co-vocal arrangements), Beowulf Boritt (scenic design), Emily Rebholz (costume design), Howell Binkley (lighting design), Brian Ronan and Kai Harada (sound design), Leah Loukas (makeup and wig design), and Jeremy Chernick (special-effects consultant).

Performances run through November 20.
