Shonda Rhimes, Jada Pinkett Smith, and More Join American Son Producing Team

Steve Stoute, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, and Nnamdi Asomugha have also joined Kerry Washington as producers.

The Broadway premiere of American Son will be coproduced by a team that includes Shonda Rhimes, Jada Pinkett Smith, Gabrielle Union-Wade, Dwyane Wade, Steve Stoute, and Nnamdi Asomugha. They join a team that includes Kerry Washington's Simpson Street, Jeffry Richards, Rebecca Gold, and Will Trice.

American Son is described as follows: "A Florida police station in the middle of the night; a mother searching for her missing teenage son. American Son is a gripping tale of two parents caught in our national divide, with their worst fears hanging in the balance." The production stars Kerry Washington, Steven Pasquale, Jeremy Jordan, and Eugene Lee. Kenny Leon directs.

The new play will begin performances on October 6, with an official opening night set for November 4. The show will play a limited engagement at the Booth Theatre.

Featured on the creative team are Derek McLane (scenic design), Dede Ayite (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design), and Peter Fitzgerald (sound design).
