Jane Anderson’s play begins its run tonight.
Emmy-award winning writer Jane Anderson’s play Mother of the Maid makes its world premiere tonight at Shakespeare & Company. Based on the story of Joan of Arc, the powerful and wry comedy takes the unique perspective of the famous religious icon’s mother. Like any mother, she must come to terms with her daughter growing up, but, additionally, she is forced to confront how different her daughter truly is. Parenthood, religion, sexuality, and politics all collide in the new play.
Anderson’s play is directed by Matthew Penn, and the cast features Tina Packer, as the eponymous character, alongside Elizabeth Aspenlieder, Jason Asprey, Nigel Gore, Nathaniel Kent, Bridget Saracino, and Anne Troup.
Performances will run through September 6.
