Robert Creighton's Cagney Plays 300th Performance

The off-Broadway musical Cagney celebrates its 300th performance, today, December 21 at the Westside Theatre.

Featuring a book by Peter Colley (The Donnelly) and music and lyrics by Robert Creighton and Christopher McGovern (Fame), Cagney tells the story of legendary stage and screen star James Cagney, following the actor from his humble beginnings in New York City's Lower East Side through his rise as a vaudeville song-and-dance man to his superstardom in Hollywood.

Cagney received its New York premiere at The York Theatre Company, where it played a limited five-week sold-out engagement.

Directed by Bill Castellino and with choreography by Joshua Bergasse, the show's six-member cast is led by Broadway veteran and original star Creighton (The Mystery of Edwin Drood) in the title role. He is joined by Jeremy Benton, Jeffry Denman, Danette Holden, Bruce Sabath, Josh Walden, and Ellen Zolezzi.

The creative team includes James Morgan (set), Martha Bromelmeier (costumes), Michael Gilliam (lights), Janie Bullard (sound), and Mark Pirolo (projections).
