Charles Messina’s new play will run at the Abingdon Theatre Company.
The stars of Charles Messina's A Room of My Own, a production of the Abingdon Theatre Company, met the press on January 19. Directed by the author, the show begins previews February 13 at the June Havoc Theatre, with opening night set for February 25. The run is scheduled to conclude March 13.
A Room of My Own is a semiautobiographical work in which Messina recounts growing up in an eccentric Italian-American family in Greenwich Village. Ralph Macchio (The Karate Kid) plays Carl Morelli, a writer reminiscing about his adolescence in the cramped apartment that he shared with his family. Mario Cantone (Steve) plays his flamboyant Uncle Jackie.
Completing the company are Nico Bustamante as 10-year old Carl, Kendra Jain (New Year’s Eve) as Jeannie Morelli, Johnny Tammaro (Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding) as Peter Morelli, Joli Tribuzio (Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding) as Dotty Morelli, and Liza Vann (The Road to Damascus) as Aunt Jean.
The production features scenic design by Brian Dudkiewicz, costume design by Catherine Siracusa, lighting design by Mike Megliola, and sound design by Ian Wehrle.
