Public Theater to Present Native Theater Festival

The Public Theater will present the Native Theater Festival, dedicated to presenting works by Native artists, which will run December 5-9.

The event will consist of four play readings — In a World Created by a Drunken God, Salvage, A Stray Dog, and Wings of Night Sky, Wings of Morning Light — plus an additional staged presentation of Tales of an Urban Indian, written and performed by Darrell Dennis, on the final night. Each reading will be followed by a post-show discussion with the author as well as special Native guests, including Hanay Geiogamah,Terry Gomez, Alanis King, Daniel David Moses, Yvette Nolan, Jennifer Podemski, and Randy Reinholz.

In addition, Joy Harjo and the Arrow Dynamics Band will perform at Joe’s Pub, and there will also be closed door panel discussions that address issues concerning Native artists today. Additional ancillary events will be held at the National Museum of the American Indian and Judson Memorial Church.
