In 1960, Chita Rivera and Dick Van Dyke co-starred as Rosie and Albert in the original Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie. This week, the pair was reunited when Van Dyke appeared as a special guest in Chita Rivera: The Dancer’s Life for four performances only. On Tuesday night, the reunion was celebrated with an after-party at Tony’s DiNapoli restaurant on West 43rd Street. Here are Chita and Dick, all aglow.
Among the notables present at Tony’s: Robin Givens, who recently took over the role of Roxie Hart in Chicago…
…and movie star Ben Stiller, who appeared Off-Broadway in Neil LaBute’s This Is How It Goes last season. (Van Dyke will be in Stiller’s upcoming big screen comedy Night at the Museum.)
On Monday, January 23, Jennifer Ferrin — one of the stars of CBS-TV’s As the World Turns — went to see the Off-Broadway hit Altar Boyz and then visited backstage. Here’s Ferrin (left) with the show’s stage manager, Heather Weiss, a childhood friend.
Here’s Ferrin again with the Altar Boyz (left to right): Scott Porter, Tyler Maynard, Clyde Alves, James Royce Edwards, and Dennis Moench.
Also on Monday, Manhattan Theatre Club held its winter gala at the Rainbow Room. Among those on hand: Brian Stokes Mitchell, star of the upcoming City Center Encores! presentation of Kismet…
…Penny Fuller, whose credits range from Applause to Rex to Beautiful Child…
…and Donna McKechnie, who created the role of Cassie in A Chorus Line, a show that’s scheduled for a Broadway revival later this year.
Last evening, Sarah Jones’s critically acclaimed solo show Bridge & Tunnel opened on Broadway. Here’s the star at the after-party, which was held at the United Nations headquarters!
Also on hand for the festivities at the U.N.: Jones’s husband, slam poet Steven Colman, who appeared on Broadway in Russell Simmons Def Poetry Jam…
…the brilliant actress Meryl Streep, who was one of the producers of Bridge & Tunnel when Jones did the show for The Culture Project in 2004…
…and Anthony Edwards, best known for his role of Dr. Mark Greene on TV’s ER.
Among the stars who caught Bridge & Tunnel on opening night: Natalie Portman, of Star Wars fame…
