Erica Schmidt will direct the Ivan Turgenev play.
Classic Stage Company has announced that 2014 Emmy Award nominees Peter Dinklage (HBO’s Game of Thrones) and Taylor Schilling (Netflix’s Orange Is The New Black) will co-star as Rakitin and Natalya in Ivan Turgenev’s A Month In The Country, beginning performances January 9 for a limited engagement February 15. Erica Schmidt will direct.
The play chronicles the turmoil that befalls an otherwise quiet country estate when a handsome young tutor arrives to teach Natalya Petrovna's young son. When Natalya becomes interested in a tutelage of another kind, it is much to the consternation of her husband and her long suffering friend, Rakitin, who is secretly smitten with her.
Peter Dinklage currently appears in Game of Thrones as Tyrion Lannister, a role for which Dinklage received the 2011 Emmy Award. His theater credits include the title role in Richard III at the Public Theater, Charlie Kaufman's radio play Theater of the New Ear at St Ann's Warehouse, and more.
Taylor Schilling currently stars in the Orange is the New Black as Piper Chapman, for which she has received a 2014 Emmy Award nomination as Best Actress in a Dramatic Series. In 2013, Schilling was seen in the Academy Award winning film Argo opposite Ben Affleck, Bryan Cranston, and John Goodman.
A Month In The Country will be an addition to CSC's already announced 2014/2015 season, which includes Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Allegro, directed by Tony Award winner John Doyle; Shakespeare's Hamlet starring Peter Sarsgaard and directed by Austin Pendleton, and Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, starring Chris Noth with direction by Andrei Belgrader.
