Broadway icons and Tony winners Patti LuPone (Gypsy) and Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens) will play a pair of pioneering cosmetics entrepreneurs in the new musical War Paint, a production of Chicago's Goodman Theatre that begins June 28, 2016.

Inspired by Lindy Woodhead's book War Paint, as well as Ann Carol Grossman and Arnie Reisman's PBS documentary The Powder & the Glory, the show examines the ascent and rivalry of Helena Rubenstein and Elizabeth Arden, whose 50-year tug-of-war gave birth to an industry. LuPone will take on the role of Rubenstein, and Ebersole will play Arden.

The piece reunites Ebersole with the creative team behind the musical Grey Gardens, for which she won her Tony. War Paint features a book by Doug Wright, score by Scott Frankel and Michael Korie, and direction by Michael Greif.

Additional information about War Paint will be announced in the coming months.
