Rivera took in a performance of ”Takarazuka’s Chicago” at Lincoln Center.
Original Velma Kelly Chita Rivera met the stars of Takarazuka's Chicago before their first performance on July 20.
Running through July 24 at the David H. Koch Theater, the 102-year-old Japanese musical-revue troupe presents an all-female version of Chicago, starring actresses Saori Mine, Saki Asaji, Asato Shizuki, Yoka Wao, Wataru Kozuki, Hikaru Asami, Natsuki Mizu, and Yuga Yamato. It is being presented as part of the Lincoln Center Festival.
Featuring classic tunes by John Kander and Fred Ebb, and a book by Ebb and Bob Fosse, Chicago tells the story of Roxie Hart, a nightclub dancer who murders her on-the-side lover after he threatens to walk out on her. Desperate to avoid conviction, she dupes the public, the media, and her rival cellmate, Velma Kelly, by hiring Chicago's slickest criminal lawyer to transform her crime into a barrage of sensational headlines.
