Disney Theatrical Productions has announced that Adam Jacobs, who originated the title role in Aladdin on Broadway, will play the role in the show's upcoming North American tour. Jacobs is currently starring in Aladdin on Broadway at the New Amsterdam Theatre and will remain in that production through February 12.

Jacobs' replacement will be announced at a later date. In the interim, beginning February 14, Aladdin understudy Joshua Dela Cruz will play the role.

As previously announced, the Aladdin North American tour begins performances in Chicago at the Cadillac Palace Theatre on April 11, 2017. Future engagements and additional casting information will be announced in the coming months.

Based on the 1992 Disney animated film, Aladdin opened on March 20, 2014. The production currently stars Adam Jacobs as Aladdin, Courtney Reed as Jasmine, and Tony Award winner James Monroe Iglehart as the Genie.

Featuring a score by Alan Menken, Howard Ashman, and Tim Rice with songs such as "Friend Like Me" and the Academy Award-winning "A Whole New World," Aladdin features a new book and additional lyrics by Chad Beguelin.

The creative team includes Bob Crowley (scenic design), Gregg Barnes (costume design), Natasha Katz (lighting design), Ken Travis (sound design), Jim Steinmeyer (illusions), Josh Marquette (hair design), Michael Kosarin (music supervisor/vocal and incidental arrangements), Danny Troob (orchestrator), and Glen Kelly (dance music arranger).
