Sara Bareilles, Will Swenson, and Chris Diamantopoulos took their first bows as the new stars of Broadway's Waitress on March 31.
Bareilles, the show's Tony-nominated songwriter, leads the cast in the role of Jenna, alongside Tony nominee Swenson as Earl, and Diamantopoulos as Dr. Pomatter. They replace Jessie Mueller, William Popp, and Drew Gehling.
Inspired by Adrienne Shelley's 2007 motion picture, Waitress features songs by Bareilles, a book by Jessie Nelson, and direction by Diane Paulus. The production opened April 24, 2016, at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and earned four Tony nominations.
The current cast of Waitress includes Eric Anderson (Cal), Charity Angél Dawson (Becky), Christopher Fitzgerald (Ogie), Caitlin Houlahan (Dawn), and Dakin Matthews (Joe), as well as Cate Elefante, Thay Floyd, Henry Gottfried, Molly Hager, Aisha Jackson, Molly Jobe, Max Kumangai, Anastacia McClesky, Ella Dane Morgan, Jeremy Morse, Olivia Phillip, Stephanie Torns, and Ryan Vasquez.
