Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi’s musical recently ended its run at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre.
Theatrical licensor Musical Theatre International (MTI) has secured worldwide rights to the recent Broadway musical It Shoulda Been You. The show, written by Brian Hargrove and Barbara Anselmi, will be available for licensing in spring 2016.
"The entire audience laughs through the whole show and the unexpected plot twist delivers the biggest surprise in years — but no spoilers here! Producing theatres are going to have great time with this show," said Drew Cohen, president of MTI, in a statement.
Directed by Emmy and Tony Award winner David Hyde Pierce, It Shoulda Been You featured an original book and lyrics by Hargrove and music by Anselmi. The musical is described as "a culture clash for the ages" that follows two families who come together to celebrate a wedding.
Tyne Daly, Harriet Harris, Sierra Boggess, David Burtka, Lisa Howard, and Edward Hibbert starred alongside Montego Glover, Josh Grisetti, Michael X. Martin, Anne L. Nathan, Nick Spangler, and Chip Zien. Daly, Howard, and Grisetti received 2015 Drama Desk Award nominations for their performances. It Shoulda Been You played its final performance at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on August 9
As previously announced, Ghostlight Records has released the original Broadway cast recording of It Shoulda Been You in digital outlets. It will be available on CD October 9.
