Michele Pawk to Play Madame Morrible in Broadway Production of Wicked

Tony Award winner Michele Pawk will step into the role of Madame Morrible in the long-running Broadway production of Wicked starting December 12. She joins Michael Wartella, who returned to the role of Boq last night, November 15.
Pawk won a Tony Award in 2003 for her featured performance in Hollywood Arms. Since then, she has appeared on Broadway in Hairspray, Mamma Mia!, Democracy, Losing Louie, and Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. She won a 2020 Lucille Lortel Award for her performance as a conservative Catholic University professor in Heroes of the Fourth Turning.
Wartella was recently seen starring as Dion DiMucci in the pre-Broadway engagement of The Wanderer.
They join a cast that currently includes Talia Suskauer as Elphaba, Brittney Johnson as Glinda, Tony Award-winner Cleavant Derricks as The Wizard, James D. Gish as Fiyero, Tony Award nominee Clifton Davis as Doctor Dillamond, and Mikayla Renfrow as Nessarose. Jordan Barrow played his final performance as Boq on November 13 and Sharon Sachs will play her final performance as Madame Morrible on Sunday, December 11.
Wicked has played to regularly full houses at Broadway's Gershwin Theatre since 2003, making it one of the most successful Broadway musicals in history. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, it tells the story of The Wizard of Oz from the perspective of Elphaba, the misunderstood "Wicked" Witch of the West. The score by Stephen Schwartz features songs like "Popular," "The Wizard and I," and "Defying Gravity."
