Met: Live in HD Announces 2011-12 Season

The Met: Live in HD series of live opera transmissions has announced its programming for the 2011-12 season, which will be broadcast in 51 countries around the world, including new additions China and Israel.

The series will kick off with Donizetti’s Anna Bolena, starring Anna Netrebko in the title role, on Saturday, October 15.The cast also includes Ekaterina Gubanova as Giovanna Seymour and Ildar Abdrazakov as Enrico. David McVicar directs, and the opera is conducted by Marco Armiliato. Renée Fleming will host the broadcast.

Additional operas in the series include Michael Grandage’s production of Don Giovanni with Mariusz Kwiecien in the title role (October 29); Robert Lepage’s production of Siegfried with Gary Lehman, Bryn Terfel, and Deborah Voigt (November 5); Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch’s production of Philip Glass’ Satyagraha (November 19); Stephen Wadsworth’s production of Rodelinda with Renée Fleming and Stephanie Blythe (December 3); and Des McAnuff’s production of Faust starring Jonas Kaufmann and René Pape (December 10).

In the new year, featured operas include the world premiere of Jeremy Sams’ The Enchanted Island, directed by Phelim McDermott and Julian Crouch (January 21); Robert Lepage’s staging of Gotterdammerung, again starring Voigt (February 11); Pier Luigi Samaritani’s production of Ernani with Marcello Giordani in the title role (February 25); Laurent Pelly’s production of Manon starring Anna Netrebko (April 7); and Willy Decker’s production of La Traviata starring Natalie Dessay (April 14).
