The play is receiving its West Coast premiere with Carey Perloff’s new production at La Jolla Playhouse.
La Jolla Playhouse has announced the cast and creative team for its upcoming West Coast premiere production of Pulitzer Prize winner Martyna Majok's queens, running July 3-29 in the Sheila and Hughes Potiker Theatre.
The cast will feature Jolly Abraham (Cost of Living), Leslie Fray (TV's Elementary), Rae Gray (TV's Fear the Walking Dead), Brenda Meaney (Party Face), Melissa Miller, and Xochitl Romero. Directed by Carey Perloff, the creative team will include David Israel Reynoso (scenic designer), Denitsa Bliznakova (costume designer), Lap Chi Chu (lighting designer), and Mark Bennett (sound designer, composer).
Queens made its world premiere at Lincoln Center Theater's Claire Tow Theater earlier this year. In the play, "the lives of two generations of immigrant women collide in a basement apartment. When the choices they've made about their security, dignity, and desires come back to haunt them, they must ask: What cannot — and should not — be left behind?"
