Mark Rylance, Stephen Fry, Samuel Barnett to Lead Broadway Revival of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

Two-time Tony Award winner Mark Rylance (with legendary British actor/comedian Stephen Fry and Samuel Barnett of The History Boys in tow) will return to Broadway this fall in a double bill of all-male productions of William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night and Richard III. Directed by Tim Carroll, the revivals, which originated at Shakespeare’s Globe before transferring to London’s West End, will play the Belasco Theatre beginning October 15. Opening night is set for November 10.

In Twelfth Night, which will run six performances per week, Rylance will take on the role of the grieving Olivia, with Fry as Malvolio, her uptight servant, and Barnett as the cross-dressing Viola/Cesario. Rylance will then play the title role in Richard III (a production in which Fry does not appear) twice weekly, with Barnett as Queen Elizabeth.

The productions will feature designs by Jenny Tiramani and music by Rylance’s wife, Clare van Kampen. A seven-member band will play live music on traditional Elizabethan instruments.

Twelfth Night will be performed six times per week, with Richard III being performed twice. Audiences have the opportunity to see both productions in one day on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Every performance will feature 250 seats to be sold for $25, located in the balcony, selected locations in the orchestra, mezzanine, and boxes, as well as Globe-style seating on stage.
