Gurira’s drama is directed by Liesl Tommy.
Oscar winner Lupita Nyong'o makes her Broadway debut tonight as Danai Gurira's new drama Eclipsed officially opens at the John Golden Theatre. Liesl Tommy directs the production, which played a sold-out run at the Public Theater in 2015.
Eclipsed is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of women held captive by a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed.
The company is led by Nyong'o, who performs alongside Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh.
