Danai Gurira’s drama is directed by Liesl Tommy at the Public Theater.
The Public Theater has announced a final extension for its upcoming production of Danai Gurira's Eclipsed. The production was originally scheduled to close November 8 before being extended a first time through November 15. It will now run an additional two weeks through November 29. Previews begin September 29, with an official press opening on October 14.
Directed by Obie Award winner Liesl Tommy and featuring Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong’o (12 Years a Slave) in her New York stage debut, Eclipsed is a look at the Liberian Civil War from the perspective of the captive wives of a Liberian rebel officer. With the arrival of a new woman who can read, and the return of an old one who can kill, their possibilities are quickly transformed. Gurira, who stars on AMC's The Walking Dead, is also the author of the plays In the Continuum and The Convert.
In addition to Nyong'o, the cast features Pascale Armand, Akosua Busia, Zainab Jah, and Saycon Sengbloh. The creative team includes Clint Ramos (scenic and costume design), Jen Schriever (lighting design), Broken Chord (original music and sound design), and Beth McGuire (vocal and dialect coaching).
