Lincoln Center Theater will present the New York premiere of Ayad Akhtar’s Disgraced as part of its LCT3 initiative in the brand new Claire Tow Theater, October 15-November 18, with an opening on October 22. Kimberly Senior will direct.
The play is the story of Amir Kapoor, a successful Pakistani-American lawyer who is rapidly moving up the corporate ladder while distancing himself from his cultural
roots. When Amir and his wife Emily, a white artist influenced by Islamic paintings, host a dinner party, what starts out as a friendly conversation escalates into something far more damaging.
The cast and design team will be announced at a later date.
Akhtar is a writer and actor, who wrote the novel American Dervish and is the co-author of numerous screenplays. He co-wrote and played the lead role in the film The War Within, which was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay . His other plays include The Invisible Hand, which recently premiered at the Repertory Theatre of St. Louis.
