The Atlantic Theater Company revival will be directed and choreographed by Martha Clarke.
The Atlantic Theater Company has announced full casting for the upcoming musical revival of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill's musical The Threepenny Opera, directed and choreographed by Martha Clarke. The production, which will run for only eight weeks at the Atlantic's Linda Gross Theater, will begin previews on March 12, with an official opening on April 7.
The 14-person cast will include Academy Award winner F. Murray Abraham (Mauritius), Sophie Bortolussi, Jon David Casey, Timothy Doyle (Salome), Lilli Cooper (Spring Awakening), Rick Holmes (Peter and the Starcatcher), John Kelly, Lindsey Dietz Marchant, Sally Murphy (August: Osage County), Mary Beth Peil (Follies), Laura Osnes (Rodgers + Hammerstein's Cinderella), Emmy winner Michael Park (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Cristina Spina, and John Watkins.
Based on John Gay's The Beggar's Opera, The Threepenny Opera follows Macheath (Park) and his criminal exploits in 19th century London. When Macheath marries Polly Peachum (Osnes), the straight-laced daughter of merchant J.J. Peachum (Abraham), their unlikely union unleashes chaos.
The design team for The Threepenny Opera will feature scenic design by Robert Israel, costume design by Donna Zakowska, lighting design by Christopher Akerlind, sound design by Clive Goodwin, and musical direction by Gary Fagin.
