The Tony winners will perform together later this month.
Tony winner Laura Benanti, who will soon be returning to the Broadway stage in the Roundabout Theatre Company revival of the musical She Loves Me, will first join fellow Tony winner Jason Robert Brown onstage at SubCulture. The two Broadway favorites will perform together in a one-night concert on August 15. The event will be presented as part of Brown's ongoing artist-in-residency program at the venue.
Laura Benanti's many Broadway credits include Gypsy (for which she won her Tony), Nine, The Sound of Music, Into the Woods, Swing!, The Wedding Singer, In the Next Room (or the vibrator play), and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. On television, she has been seen in Go On, The Playboy Club, Starved, The Sound of Music Live!, and Nashville. Most recently, Benanti starred in Radio City Music Hall's New York Spring Spectacular. In May, Benanti hosted the 60th annual Drama Desk Awards ceremony.
Jason Robert Brown was most recently represented on Broadway with his musical version of Honeymoon in Vegas, starring Tony Danza. In addition, a film version of his musical The Last Five Years was released on February 13. His other musicals include Parade, 13, and Songs for a New World.
Details of Brown's upcoming concert come on the heels of SubCulture's recent announcement that it would cancel most of the upcoming performances scheduled in order to restructure its business model. Brown's shows, which will continue through November, are unaffected by the restructuring.
