Lance Baker will bring the most talked about monologue in recent memory, Mike Daisey’s The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs back to the Chicago stage for one night only, Wednesday March 9at 7:30pm, at the Den Theatre in Wicker Park.
Since This American Life broadcast an hour-long retraction, investigating several factual inaccuracies in Daisey’s piece, an April performance at the Chicago Theater was also abruptly canceled, and debate raged in both theater and journalism circles as to whether Daisey had violated the performer-audience relationship and dealt a blow to his now-well-known cause.
In an examination of the most talked-about theater piece of the year, the evening will explore the initial impact on the public consciousness, the subsequent controversy, and the road ahead for journalists, theater practitioners, and the Chinese laborers themselves.
Veteran actor Lance Baker is performing this monologue for the third time, having presented the Chicago premiere. He has been a presence on Chicago stages since 1989, and has appeared at the Goodman, Steppenwolf, Court, Northlight, and Chicago Shakespeare, among others, and has performed in numerous solo shows.
