Principal casting has been announced for the movie remake of Footloose, which will be written and directed by Craig Brewster. Paramount Pictures plans to release the film on April 1, 2011.
Newcomer Kenny Wormald will star as Ren, opposite Julianne Hough as Ariel, Dennis Quaid as Reverend Moore, and Miles Teller as Willard. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
Oscar-winning songwriter Dean Pitchford, who wrote the screenplay and songs for the original movie, will executive produce. The movie will feature choreography from Jamal Sims.
Footloose was originally filmed in 1984, with Kevin Bacon in the leading role, and was subsequently developed into a Broadway musical.
