Joshua Henry won his first Tony Award on his fourth nomination. He won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for his performance as Coalhouse Walker Jr. in Ragtime, currently playing at the Vivian Beaumont Theater through August 2.

Henry also won Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Awards for this performance. TheaterMania’s Zachary Stewart wrote in his review, “Henry’s performance is nothing short of magnificent. With the lung capacity of a zeppelin and a baritone you can feel in your bones, he stops the show during ‘Wheels of a Dream.'”

Henry, who made his Broadway debut in 2008 in In The Heights, was nominated for his first Tony Award in 2011 for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical for The Scottsboro Boys. He was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical in 2014 for Violet and again for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Musical in 2018 for Carousel.
