Ghee has been battling kidney disease since 2022.

Tony winner J. Harrison Ghee will take a medical hiatus from the national tour of Oh, Mary! through November 1.
As previously reported, Ghee has been managing kidney disease since 2022 and is on the transplant waiting list. Owing to a recent change in their kidney function, Ghee’s doctors have advised that they step away from the production to focus on treatment.
“I’m so grateful to the producers and the entire company of Oh, Mary! for the extraordinary support, care, and understanding they’ve shown me during this time,” Ghee said in a statement. “Stepping away isn’t easy, but I know I’m doing it surrounded by people who genuinely support me, and that means more than I can say.”
When the tour begins performances on September 19 at the Bushnell in Hartford, the role of Mary’s Husband will now be played by Tony nominee John-Andrew Morrison, who will assume the role through November 1. It is still expected that Ghee will pick up the role after that point, and will also take on the role of Mary beginning January 19.
