Holly Hunter and Elisabeth Moss will star in BBC Two’s miniseries Top Of The Lake. Jane Campion and Garth Davis will co-direct the project, which is scheduled to air in early 2013.
The story, which unfolds in the remote mountains of New Zealand, centers on the events that ensue after a pregnant 12-year-old named Tui (last seen standing chest deep in a frozen lake) disappears. Moss will play the detective investigating the case and Hunter will play a guru at a local women’s camp. The cast will also feature Peter Mullan as the girl’s father, a local drug lord.
Hunter’s Broadway credits include Beth Henley’s Crimes of the Heart and The Wake of Jamey Foster. She won an Academy Award for The Piano, which was also directed by Campion, and received Oscar nominations for Broadcast News, The Firm, and Thirteen.
Moss made her Broadway debut in Speed-the-Plow, and recently was seen in The Children’s Hour in the West End. She is perhaps best known for playing Peggy Olson on AMC’s Mad Men.
