Hercules and More on Tap for Public Theater's Free Summer Season

”Much Ado About Nothing” and ”Coriolanus” will join the lineup at the Delacorte Theater.

The Public Theater has confirmed that the new stage adaptation of the 1997 Disney animated feature Hercules will be presented as part of its summer 2019 season at the Delacorte Theatre.

With a score by Alan Menken and David Zippel, who penned the songs for the film, Hercules has a book by Kristoffer Diaz (Rent on Fox). Lear deBessonet will direct the musical, which will have choreography by Chase Brock. Based on the Disney film written by Ron Clements, John Musker, Donald McEnery, Bob Shaw, and Irene Mecchi and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, Hercules will be presented as part of the Public Works season, with free performances running August 31-September 8.

The Public has also announced the two selections for its free Shakespeare in the Park season. Kenny Leon will direct a new production of the romantic comedy Much Ado About Nothing, running May 21-June 23, and Daniel Sullivan will stage the war-torn tragedy Coriolanus, July 16-August 11.
