Helen Mirren will star in the upcoming film Deadlocked, which has secured the funding to move forward and will be co-produced by British producer Andy Harries’ Left Bank Pictures and Canadian Rob Heydon’s Ecstasy Pictures, according to published reports. Production is expected to begin in Spring 2012.

Philip Martin will direct this drama about a British-Jewish doctor (Mirren), seeking answers about the death of her journalist daughter in the Middle East.

Mirren won the Academy Award for Best Actress, along with a Golden Globe, BAFTA, SAG and numerous other awards, for her performance in Stephen Frears’ The Queen. Among her other recent film appearances are Red and The Tempest, as well as The Last Station, for which she earned a fourth Oscar nomination. The actress was most recently seen on stage in Racine’s Phedre, a role which she played in London and Washington, D.C.
