Full casting has been announced for The SpongeBob Musical's upcoming pre-Broadway Chicago engagement, which will run from June 7-July 3 at Broadway in Chicago's Oriental Theatre. The show is slated to open on Broadway in the 2016-17 season.
Carlos Lopez joins the primary cast as Mr. Krabs, alongside Ethan Slater as SpongeBob SquarePants, Gavin Lee as Squidward, Nick Blaemire as Plankton, Lilli Cooper as Sandy Cheeks, and Danny Skinner as Patrick. The ensemble will also include Gaelen Gilliland, Juliane Godfrey, Curtis Holbrook, Stephanie Hsu, Jesse JP Johnson, L'ogan J'ones, Emmy Raver-Lampman, Mark Ledbetter, Kelvin Moon Loh, Lauralyn McClelland, Vasthy Mompoint, JC Schuster, Allysa Shorte, Jacob Smith, Abby C. Smith, Jason Michael Snow, and Allan K. Washington.
Coconceived and directed by Tina Landau, The SpongeBob Musical features a book by Kyle Jarrow (The Wildness), musical supervision by Tony Award winner Tom Kitt (Next to Normal), and choreography by Christopher Gattelli (Newsies). The design team includes David Zinn (scenic and costume design), Kevin Adams (lighting design), Peter Nigrini (projection design), and Walter Trarbach (sound design).
Nickelodeon's stage adaptation of its popular animated television series, will features original songs contributed by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry of Aerosmith, Jonathan Coulton, Dirty Projectors, the Flaming Lips, John Legend, Lady Antebellum, Cyndi Lauper, Panic! At the Disco, Plain White T's, They Might Be Giants, T.I., Yolanda Adams, Sara Bareilles, and Alex Ebert of Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros, with an additional song by David Bowie, and additional lyrics by Coulton.
