Full casting and creative team information has been announced for Adrienne Kennedy and son Adam P. Kennedy’s Mom, How Did You Meet The Beatles, to be presented at the Public Theater as part of its Lab series, February 4-23. Peter DuBois will direct.
The autobiographical show chronicles Adrienne Kennedy’s search for fame and fortune in 1960’s London, where she encountered Laurence Olivier, James Baldwin, Ricki Huston, various British writers and, of course, The Beatles.
Brenda Pressley will play Adrienne Kennedy, while William DeMeritt will play Adam P. Kennedy. The production will have sets and costumes by Alexander Dodge, lighting by Michael Chybowski, and sound by Walter Trarbach.
Pressley appeared on Broadway in the original company of Dreamgirls, and her additional credits include Cats, Marvin’s Room, Seven Guitars, and And The World Goes ‘Round – The Songs of Kander and Ebb for which she received a 1991 Outer Critics Circle Award. DeMeritt’s TV credits include Law & Order: SVU, Guiding Light, and One Life to Live.
Adrienne Kennedy has won numerous awards including three Obies, a Lifetime Achievement award from the Anisfield-Wolf Book Awards, and the PEN Master Dramatist Award. Her plays include Funnyhouse of a Negro, June and Jean in Concert, and Ohio State Murders. Adam P. Kennedy previously co-authored Sleep Deprivation Chamber with his mother, which won an Obie Award for Best New American Play. DuBois’ recent directing credits include A View From 151st Street, Jack Goes Boating, and Measure for Pleasure.
