Flashback Friday: Marin Mazzie Sings "Our Children" as Ragtime's Original Mother

Spend your day looking back at one of Mazzie’s definitive performances.

On Wednesday evening, the lights of Broadway were dimmed in honor of Marin Mazzie, a three-time Tony-nominated Broadway mainstay who passed away on September 13.

Over the span of 30 years, she appeared in nearly a dozen Broadway productions, lending her powerful voice to classic musical theater roles in Kiss Me, Kate, Man of La Mancha, The King and I, and many more. The role most often equated with her name, however, is that of Mother, which she originated in the 1997 production of Ragtime.

In continued celebration of Mazzie's life, career, and legacy, look back at her iconic performance as she sings Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty's "Our Children" alongside the original Tateh, Peter Friedman.
