The new Broadway musical ”On Your Feet!” explores the Grammy-winning singer’s rise to fame.
In 1990, the pop singer Gloria Estefan was critically injured in a frightening accident when a speeding semitruck crashed into her tour bus. Estefan suffered a fractured spine, requiring two titanium rods to be implanted into her back. Her yearlong recovery period is the climax of On Your Feet!, the conga-filled bio-musical of her life, career, and relationship with music producer Emilio Estefan, which opened last night at the Marquis Theatre. Estefan's major comeback was at the American Music Awards in 1991, where she returned to the stage for the first time after the accident. It's an emotional moment, one that you can see below.
