In the spirit of Emmy season (and for the love of Stritch), we can’t help but hearken back to her most epic of all Emmy Award acceptance speeches. In 2004, Stritch won her second Emmy for Outstanding Individual Performance in a Variety Program for the the HBO broadcast of her one-woman Broadway show Elaine Stritch: At Liberty. And darn, was she excited.
During her speech, she blurts out a few choices profanities, hints that not winning would have sent her spiraling back into alcoholism, and forgets that the number “two” comes after “one.” Take a look for yourself and start praying to the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences that she wins again.
