Amanda Quaid and Xochitl Romero play sisters in Mat Smart’s black comedy about a family of assassins.
La Jolla Playhouse has released the first photos from the world premiere production of Mat Smart's Kill Local. Jackson Gay directs the play, set to run through August 27.
Featured in the cast are Matthew Amendt (Hollywood) as Todd, Carolyn Braver (Airline Highway) as Ami, Candy Buckley (After the Fall) as Gloria, Amanda Quaid (Equus) as Sheila, and Xochitl Romero (Chimichangas and Zoloft) as Abi.
The creative team includes Wilson Chin (scenic design), Jessica Ford (costume design), Paul Whitaker (lighting design), Daniel Baker (sound design), Steve Rankin (fight director), Shirley Fishman (dramaturg), and Rob Chikar (stage manager).
The story is described as follows: "Sheila and her sister Abi work for their mother's small family business. Sheila's job used to be a source of joy and exhilaration; now she's questioning everything. But when you're an assassin, being uninspired means getting sloppy, and getting sloppy means getting killed. Kill Local is a pitch-black comedy about blood ties, revenge, and trying to get unstuck — especially when your life is dedicated to ending others'."
