The Fifth Annual New York Innovative Theatre (IT) Awards will be presented on Monday, September 21 at New World Stages. Julie Halston will host the ceremony
Presenters will include Charles Busch, Nilo Cruz, Jackie Hoffman, Andrew Lippa, Taylor Mac, Casey Nicholaw, Austin Pendleton, John Patrick Shanley, and Elizabeth Swados.
Among the nominees are actresses Jan Maxwell (for Scenes From An Execution) and Kate Middleton (for Avow), choreographer Austin McCormick (for The Judgment of Paris), playwright Mac Rogers (whose Universal Robots received multiple nominations), and composer Dave Malloy (for Beowulf – A Thousand Years of Baggage).
Six full-length plays have been named as nominees for the IT Outstanding Full-Length Script award, including Johnna Adams’ Angel Eaters, Derek Ahonen’s Amerissiah, James Carmichael’s Stomp and Shout (an’ Work it All Out), Nat Cassidy’s The Reckoning of Kit & Little Boots, Kate McGovern’s Blue Before Morning and Mac Rogers’ Universal Robots.
Gallery Players in Brooklyn snagged two nominations for Outstanding Production of a Musical for Like You LIke It and The Who’s Tommy. Also nominated in this category are Coming, Aphrodite! (LaMaMa ETC in association with Watson Arts), Ragtime (Astoria Performing Arts Center), The 103rd Annual Performance of Ruddigore, or The Witch’s Curse, Presented by Murgatroyd’s Hospital for Mental Rehabilitation, Ruddy Gore Maine (Theater 1010), and The Apple Sisters (The Apple Sisters).
