Theatre for a New Audience’s Spring Gala, Celebrating Shakespeare’s 448th Birthday, will be held on Monday, May 7 at the American Museum of Natural History. F. Murray Abraham will emcee the event.
The annual Samuel H. Scripps Award, which recognizes “Extraordinary Commitment to Promoting the Power of Language in Classic and Contemporary Theatre,” will be given to Michael Boyd, the artistic director of the Royal Shakespeare Company. It will be co-presented by dance critic Alistair Macaulay and Columbia University professor James Shapiro.
Theodore C. Rogers, the former Chairman of the Board of Theatre for a New Audience, will receive the first Life in Art Award. It will be co-presented by Tony Award-winning director Julie Taymor, along with Tony-award winning actor Mark Rylance and his wife, composer Claire van Kampen.
